EVALUATION | Question 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
Does your magazine use conventions from other professional magazines that might help attract an audience?
My magazine presents and conforms to the conventions of a pop magazine. This enables my audience to become attracted to the products I created. These include:
- Use of a range of models who have different ethnicity as pop magazines include pop artists and celebrities who are multicultural, which can relate to their consumers.
- Use of pastel colours which are seen in pop magazines which appeal to the young target audience.
- Use of female models which can relate to the consumers who are young teenage girls and would most likely look up to those older than them.
Did you chose language techniques, layout designs, fonts, colours, props, costumes, and models in order to communicate particular ideas to your audience?
Due to my magazine being pop a pop magazine, I decided to use a modern pop theme to highlight on the current era that we are in. Back in the days, pop art would have been used to represent the pop genre, but now we live on a modernized era where colours have been situated for each gender/sexuality.
Language: As my target audiences young teenagers, I decided that I'd abbreviate some words and insert words such as 'selfie' to make it more suitable for young teenagers. This also allows the audience to connect on a deeper level and have some privacy from parents etc.
Layout design: I stuck to the original "pop magazine" layout for the front cover and dps as it could be recognisable as a pop magazine with a pop theme. However, for my contents page, I decided to use a double-page spread as I felt that there needed to be a bit more images inserted rather than one or two. It looks more interesting for me as a 'pop finatic'.
Fonts: I used a few of these fonts aswell as the fonts in Photoshop. Thse fonts enables the audience to have a sense of how pop is defined in our day today.
Consumers: My models wearing fashionable clothing as pop magazines tend to include topics about fashion and clothing inspiration.
Models: With the models make up, I enhanced the features digitally as on the front cover- it may imply how the magazine might include a cosmetic/make over topic whilst on the DPS - the unique features such as the winged liner, defined eye brows in which teenagers in our society nowadays tend to do for trends.
